World premiere

Saint Philip’s is excited to welcome Ēriks Ešenvalds, an internationally renowned composer of choral and instrumental music, when he visits Tucson for the first time this May.

Saint Philip’s parishioner, Howard “Corky” Gabbert—with the assistance of the Saint Philip’s Music Commission—has commissioned a new choral mass setting in memory of Andrea Gabbert.

You are invited to attend the free concert at 3:00pm this Sunday, May 7, when Ēriks’ new work, the Saint Philip’s Missa Brevis, will have its world premiere. The program will include another stunningly beautiful cantata by Ešenvalds, Passion and Resurrection. This unique program incorporates chorus, strings, trumpets, percussion, organ, and soprano Asleif Willmer. The composer will offer a pre-concert talk in the church at 2:30pm, and you can meet him at a reception following the concert.

But wait—there’s more! The choir and ensemble will reprise the Saint Philip’s Missa Brevis on Sunday, May 14, at the 9:00am and 11:15am services.

Help spread the word and bring friends. Saint Philip’s looks forward to sharing this profound music with the Tucson community.
