The Worship Commission assists in enabling the parish to use liturgy and music to glorify and honor God.

Ministries:

Acolytes

Youth who serve at the altar during worship

Altar Guild

Prepare vestments, sacraments, linens, and vessels for all worship services

Chalice Players

Youth who interpret and present scripture through drama at All-Generations services and on special occasions

“Come and See” Worship (Seekers Worship)

Non-traditional, contemplative liturgy with inclusive language

“Comfy Space” Worship (Worship for Wigglers)

Worship with sermon activities, music, lessons, and songs designed to hold the interest of young persons while enabling those who worship with them to enjoy the presence of God in a relaxed worship setting

Friends of Music

Provides support to the music program at St. Philip’s, through sponsoring concerts, special Sunday music, scholarships, and community outreach programs. For more information click here.

Lay Liturgical Ministers

Read scriptures, lead prayers, and assist with distribution of the sacraments at communion

Ushers

Greet and assist parishioners and guests in finding seating, bulletins, directions, and many other needs while worshiping

Vergers

Serve as “minister of ceremonies” for services

Cherub Choir

A fun music program for kids ages 4–8 that builds overall musicianship through fun activities that will help them enjoy music as they grow older

St. Cecilia Choir

An intermediate choir that continues to build skills in musicianship and singing, while beginning to participate in the rehearsal and service schedule of the St. Nicholas Choir

St. Nicholas Choir

Young people grade 3 through high school who help lead worship two Sundays a month, lead Choral Evensong once a month, and other special occasions, with musical training based on the Royal School of Church Music ”Voice for Life” training scheme.

St. Philip’s Singers

Adult volunteers who help lead worship on Sunday mornings and on special occasions.

Canterbury Choir

Auditioned adult ensemble who help lead worship on Sunday mornings and on special occasions.

Canterbury Apprentices

Apprentice program for emerging voices, offered to young adults who have graduated with distinction from the St. Nicholas program.

Handbell Choirs

Groups who learn handbell techniques and help lead worship on occasional Sundays and special occasions. Learn more about the Handbell Choirs.
