WELCOME TO THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH: An Introduction to Its History, Faith, and Worship, by Christopher L. Webber. Morehouse Publishing, 1999, 133 pp. (BX5930.2 . W43 1999).
This book is new on the shelves of St. Philip's Library, available for those attending the 7:00 p.m. Wednesday Lenten class, "The Episcopal Church 101," led by our Rector. Christopher Webber addresses briefly the key themes about which every Episcopalian should be knowledgable: history, worship, the Bible in the Episcopal Church, the Church's teaching, spirituality, the Church's ministry and organization, and its mission. At the end of each chapter are questions for thought and discussion.
The Most Reverend Frank T. Griswold III, Presiding Bishop and Primate. states in the Foreward: "The author writes from the perspective of scholar, teacher, overseas worker and pastor of a variety of churches as he tells the story of the Episcopal Church: who we are, were we have come from, what we believe, and how we worship God." (p. vii).
Recent and long-time Episcopalians will do well to attend "The Episcopal Church 101," read this book, and check the library Index and Web link, to find other titles on the Episcopal Church. Another recently publishedresource is the compact 12 volume set, THE NEW CHURCH'S TEACHING SERIES, located just inside the library door to your left (Ocotillo Room in LaParroquia). This set embellishes the themes covered in WELCOME TO THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH.
