THE HISTORICAL FIGURE OF JESUS, by E. P. Sanders. Penguin Books, 1993. (BT301.2.S254)

Fascination with the life of Jesus has mushroomed in the last few years. Many at St. Philip's are engaged in this reality.

As a historian, E. P. Sanders seriously tries to portray the historical Jesus objectively sans the subjective flair of some Jesus scholars today. It is worth reading by those seeking to know Jesus better.

E. P. Sanders taught at McMaster University, Ontario, and at Oxford University, as Professor of Exegesis. Later, he joined the faculty of Duke University, and has lectured at Trinity College, Dublin, and Cambridge University. He is a fellow of the British Academy.

In support of this work, Jaroslav Pelikan, Professor of History at Yale, says: "A remarkable achievement." Professor John J. Collins, University of Chicago, says: "A remarkably lucid book, that provides a comprehensive account of the life of Jesus from a historian's point of view."
