BOOK BITES

St. Philip’s hosted the national conference of The Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church, which ended May 28.   Dan Behling, Ph.D., served as conference chair and as one of the presenters.  Since most of the St. Philip’s parish did not attend this national event, several books from Dr. Behling’s suggested reading list have been added to the collection of the Renouf / Nelson Library. They are displayed inside the entrance on the left.

The conference brochure states: “Recovery Ministries … is a nationwide network of Episcopal laity and clergy, dioceses and parishes, schools and allied agencies with a common commitment to address the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs in relation to the church’s mission.”

Those who did not attend this important event can “catch up” by reading three titles placed on display. The Rev. Dr. James B. Nelson, Professor Emeritus of Christian Ethics, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities (MN), was keynote speaker and is a resident of Tucson, with his wife Wilys Claire.  He authored two of the books and was co-editor of the third.
