Adults

St. Philip's offers many and varied opportunities for adults of all ages. Whatever their focus, these groups provide opportunities for the development of Christian community — creating, nurturing and sustaining relationships. Through them there is a place for service, learning, play, and expression of one's interests and skills.

Arts

Fine Arts: charged with recording and preserving fine art at St. Philip's.

Art Gallery Committee: selecting and supervising the art displays in the gallery at St. Philip's. This group also plans and runs the Outdoor Art Show in October.

Worship

Altar Guild: those who help prepare the Altar for the Holy Eucharist.

Ushers: those who greet and seat people for services.

Lay Readers: those who read scripture at services.

Chalice Bearers: those who assist with the distribution of the wine during Holy Communion.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers: those who take communion to the homebound and others unable to come to the worship services.

Hosts/Hostesses: those who welcome visitors and newcomers to St. Philip's on Sundays.

Adult Formation Ministries

Advent and Lenten Courses: challenge your intellect and nurture your spirit through enriching offerings held during the seasons of Advent and Lent.

Quest: Are you yearning to explore your spiritual journey in a safe and welcoming place? This popular series at St. Philip's is especially recommended for newcomers and seekers desiring to explore their faith and journey more deeply. Six sessions, with multiple series offered throughout the year. Call Greg Foraker at 299-6421, ext. 67 for more information.

Adult Formation: provides a range of courses, workshops and forums on Sundays and weekdays (read more).

Education for Ministry: a four-year program from the Episcopal Seminary at the University of the South. The course of study combines your faith journey with study of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, Church History and contemporary theology.

Bible Study: groups meeting at varying times and places to study scripture.

Parenting Classes: classes offered for those parents with teenagers and those living in step family situations.

Writing Workshop: a group meeting twice a month to write and discuss their writing.

Library: Our new expanded library has a complete collection of over 4,000 volumes dealing with theology, bible, ethics, meditation, and fiction, as well as an extensive reference collection.

Facilities and Maintenance

Philip's Phixers: members who volunteer time and effort to make repairs at St. Philip's. The group meets on Monday mornings.

Garden Guild: maintaining the internal cloister gardens, planting seasonal flowers and watering as needed.

Needleworkers: those who make and repair clergy vestments and banners.

Fellowship

Episcopal Church Women: a branch of the national church organization for women.

St. Margaret's Guild: a branch of ECW offering a program of worship, study, fellowship and service to the Church community.

Cell Groups: small gatherings that center around both social and mission-oriented activities.

Clerical and Office Help

Receptionists: volunteer receptionists for St. Philip's office

Mailers: assistants to the Parish Secretary for bulk mailing preparation

St. Matthew's Guild: weekly money counters

Social

Tee Timers: a group who meet once a month for golf and dinner.

Literati: a group for those who want to read and discuss books.

Bridge Group: a group that meets twice a month for Bridge.

St. Philip's Academics (SPA): a social group of present and former academics/ teachers/ people in the field of education who meet once a month for a program and food.
