2007 Outreach Annual Report Script
Slide 1: Verbal
One of the Commissions that I have the privilege of working
with is our Outreach Commission. The Commission is chaired by two very talented individuals:
Sharon Chamberlin and Jim Marr.
St. Philipians involved in Outreach are very passionate
about their causes and their ministry. Doing
the work of Christ in the world and representing both our Parish and our Lord
is a responsibility they embrace and they take very seriously.
Depending on how they are grouped,
we have about 20 Outreach Ministries at St. Philip’s. The ministries may be
grouped in the categories that you see on the screen,

2-Some of our Partnerships involve Border Ministries. Last year a group from St. Philip’s
traveled to Naco, AZ
and Naco, Sonora
for a Diocesan Border Walk and shared an Agape meal with Christians across the
Border. Some of the group also visited
the Just Coffee Roasting Facility in Mexico. We sell Just
Coffee to support a coffee grower cooperative based in Chiapas, Mexico, providing economic incentives for young and old to
remain on family lands and reduce the need to migrate to the U.S. to find work.. Just Coffee is sold
at St. Philip’s on the first Sunday of every month. Last year our parishioners purchased about
630 lbs. on those twelve sale days.

3-A new Outreach Ministry began in
July of last year when a group of St. Philipians agreed to co-sponsor a
Burundian Refugee Family. The family
consists of mother, Elizabeth, father, Venance
and 5 children Jonas, Eric, Minus, Adelfina and Ghadi. They came to America
with few resources and little knowledge of our country. About twenty of our parishioners have been
directly involved in helping the family with their transition. To get this family off to a good start in America,
St. Philipians helped furnish their apartment with basic
necessities such as pots and pans, furniture, beds, bicycles, toys and
clothing for the family. Monetary
donations have also been given. The guitar was given
in September and was something they truly loved. Christmas gifts for the family were collected
by the choir and delivered Dec. 3rd.

4: Habitat for Humanity
In August St.
Philip’s kicked off a fund drive to match a $10,000 grant made by the Outreach
Commission. So far, donations of
$8,330.00 have come in for a matching total of $16,660.00 in support of this
ministry. St. Philip’s construction site
is located off of South Craycroft. At present there are
19 St. Philippians on the volunteer roster. In 2007 teams have contributed
to a range of building activities. The
organization also needs volunteers to help at their Habistore which sells
discounted building materials to the community.

Slide 5: Schools
Ministry
St. Philippians volunteer at three
public schools and one private Episcopal School. Volunteers
serve as reading mentors and classroom aides, always with a goal of improving
student achievement and opportunity through education. About 30 volunteers form St. Philip’s work
directly with about 60 students.
The 2007 Christmas Project, 30
volunteers worked to collect $10,705.00 to support 3 schools serving low-income
students Uniforms were purchased for students at Richey, Crisis Intervention
and attendance incentives at Rio Vista and the reading and math programs at Imago
Dei. About 140 families contributed to
the Christmas Project.

In 2008 Outreach would like to
increase communication with the parish by starting an Outreach email system and
Ministry Calendar. We would like to
increase participation with all age groups—this will include an effort to
partner with other Commissions esp. our Children’s Youth and Family Ministry
and partnering with our Evangelism Commission
Moving from Maintenance to Mission
is about embracing the call that God places on all of our lives. So, we want to
identify and pursue additional Outreach ministries that you are interested in.
I am very proud of our group and the wonderful, hard work
that they are doing.
Join us as we build relationships with one another and as we
work to share the love of Christ in the world.
Thank you.
